Varese Sarabande Records was formed in 1978 and shortly thereafter became known for an increasingly active release schedule of classic film soundtrack reissues. From this point until 1988, Varese Sarabande Records, distributed by a network of independents, slowly grew and continued adding to its catalog, along the way experiencing the occasional hit soundtrack such as those from "Rambo", "Ghost", "The Man From Snowy River", "Witness" and "Blue Velvet".
In 1988, Varese Sarabande Records concluded a distribution deal with MCA Distribution, (now Universal Music and Video Distribution), effectively expanding its sales potential by increasing its market penetration. Currently, Varese Sarabande Records is an industry leader in soundtracks and is also releasing high-quality reissues spanning all types of genres and eras via our Varese Vintage division.
Our policy on the sale of bootleg and promotional CDs
As is common in the record industry, Varese Sarabande sends out promotional copies of compact discs to reviewers, radio and retail to help us gain exposure of our releases. Our promotional copies are recognizable in that they are punched or drilled through the UPC/barcode or at the top right or left corners on the back of the jewel case. Sometimes these drilled CDs may be called a "cut-out" which usually signifies a title is out of print. An in-print copy of a CD with a drill mark, in most cases, is a promotional CD. This is to signify that the CD in question is intended only for promotional use and not for sale. If you think that somebody is trying to sell you a promotional copy, please let us know by emailing davis@varesesarabande.com.
With regards to bootlegs, Varese Sarabande reserves the right to request that ebay remove any CDs that infringe on our copyrights and licenses.
