About EBSQ:
Welcome! EBSQ membership is open to all artists.
We particularly welcome those artists whose access to traditional
art venues may be limited or unavailable due to race, creed, gender,
orientation, formal artistic training, financial resources, or
geographical location. We welcome the novice and the master painter,
and fellows creating in all media.
Artists, you are genuinely welcome, whatever your style of art,
or artistic philosophy may be. The whole intent of this group
is to help artists create a community of independent artists,
many of whom sell their work online. No group member is ever going
to ask you to change your approach to making art, although you
will find lively discussions on our message boards, the hub of
our online community.
Originally, the four letter term "EBSQ" was an abbreviation
for "e-basquiat" after the artist Jean-Michel Basquiat,
who was admired by some of the group's founding artists. However,
the real power of the term "EBSQ" is that it is a rarely
found combination of letters that causes the listings of our members
to stand out on eBay and other auction sites when collectors search
for artist's listings. We have a growing mailing list of over
150 collectors who actively follow the auctions of our members.
We call ourselves "Self-Representing Artists", and
make collectors aware that they can buy high quality works directly
from us, without the added cost of dealer commissions. EBSQ does
not take commissions from artist's works. Rather we are a resource
and a network of like-minded artists, providing many tools for
artists to help themselves in their career.
Joining EBSQ is very likely to help you sell artwork, but you
should be patient as collectors begin to recognize your work.
In general, about 60% of the items listed on eBay by EBSQ members
sell, compared to a rate around 15% for all Fine Art items on
eBay, so it is clear that our idea is helpful. Of course, pricing,
presentation, and so much more are up to you. Our average sale
price is around $40.00, but items listed as EBSQ have sold for
as little as $1.00 and as much as $760.00. Our founder, John Seed,
was crucial in the creation of eBay's Self-Representing Artist's
category, something that might not have happened without EBSQ's
success in the online marketplace. We have made an impact, and
we're just getting started.
As of July 1, 2002, over 350 EBSQ artists have participated in
eBay auctions, and something like 500 to 700 ebsq auctions are
running at any given time.
